I’ve written three linked books of fiction—the Rainey Royal Cycle—about the same troubled families and girls set in 1970s and ’80s Greenwich Village; List of All Possible Desires, a novel in stories; the novel Rainey Royal, a New York Times Editors’ Choice (with an O. Henry Prize selection); and the novel in stories Normal People Don’t Live Like This. In a past life I covered medicine for the New Orleans Times-Picayune and interior design for the Chicago Tribune, and wrote six books on decorating. Los Angeles is home.
